Game Rules
What happens in case of a tie in votes?
If there is a tie, no one is eliminated, and the game continues with another round of discussion. Players should use this time to gather more information and break the tie in the next vote. Alternatively, you can agree verbally on who to eliminate and use the real-life voting mode to proceed faster.
How does the game work with more than one Mr. White?
If there are multiple Mr. Whites, they act independently because they do not know each other. However, if a Mr. White is eliminated and guesses the word, all Mr. Whites win together. This makes collaboration difficult, but it might make sense to help another player you suspect is a Mr. White.
What happens if a player forgets their word?
Since the game is based on memory and deduction, forgetting your word is part of the challenge. There is no way to see the word again once the game has started. The player will have to do their best to bluff and survive!
What is the difference between anonymous voting and real-life voting?
The choice depends on your group's preferences:
- Anonymous vote: Players vote by passing the phone around. This can increase tension and mystery but takes more time.
- Real-life vote: Players discuss and vote openly. It's faster and promotes lively debate but can make bluffing harder.
What happens if someone accidentally reveals the secret word?
If the secret word is revealed, the game ends. The Civilians lose, and depending on who revealed the word, the Undercovers or Mr. White might win. Generally, it's best to restart the game with new words.
Can I use a clue that has already been said?
Yes, but it can be risky. Repeating a clue can make you seem unoriginal or, worse, an Undercover or a Mr. White with no ideas. Use it with caution!
Can the game end in a tie?
No, the game never ends in a tie; there is always a winner. Depending on the winning conditions, Civilians, Undercovers, or Mr. White can win. It is also possible for multiple factions to win. For example, if the Civilians are eliminated, both the Undercovers and any remaining Mr. Whites win together.
Gameplay
How many players can play Undercover Mr. White?
Undercover Mr. White supports 3 to 20 players, but the gameplay experience changes depending on the number of participants. With 3-4 players, the game, while fast, can become a bit predictable due to the small number of people. The recommended number of players is 5 to 8, as there is a perfect balance between chaos, bluffing, and strategy. Enough players to make it difficult to spot the impostors, but not so many as to slow down the game. With more than 8 players, things start to get chaotic! Discussions become more lively and unpredictable. Games can last longer and require more attention to keep track of all the clues.
How many Undercovers or Mr. Whites should I use?
For a balanced game, we recommend having about one Undercover or Mr. White for every 2-3 players. For example, in a group of 8 people, 2 Undercovers and 1 Mr. White work well. Feel free to experiment to find the combination your group prefers!
How long does a game of Undercover Mr. White last?
A typical game lasts between 10 and 20 minutes, depending on the number of players and how lively the discussions get. It's a fast-paced game, perfect for multiple rounds.
Are there different word categories?
Yes! We offer a wide range of word packs, from everyday words to more specific themes. You can choose your preferred packs at the beginning of each game to keep it fresh and interesting.
